INDIVIDUAL WINNERS - MILES
Bill Carlson, coming in first with over 1300 miles, spent lots of time on his bike this year, biking to dinner with friends and...
Sole Power Challenge Ends TODAY!
Good Afternoon Sole Power! Sad to see the day come, but alas, today is the last day to log your miles.. (despite what the ad in the Vail Daily says, they accidentally ran an old ad) and we are only 236 miles away from hitting the 20,000 mark! Can you help us get there? it’s a beautiful day, get out there! There are awesome prizes up for grabs, the last raffle before the end of season party...
Car(e)free living!
Just curious if anyone else bikes year round, or doesn’t own a car. Probably a rare thing out here due to snowfall, but I’m hoping I can keep bike commuting in the winter months! Rock on, fellow peddlers!
Sole Power Challenge Ends Soon!
Good Afternoon Sole Power! What an awesome season this has been! Almost to 20,000 miles, can you help us get there? The Challenge officially ends next Friday, September 16th!! The End of Season Party will be held at the Vail Chophouse on October 7th. Details to follow, but mark your calendar - great prizes, food and drinks for all!
Post Miles promptly pretty please!
It’s more fun watching the leaderboards in “real time” than having someone store up their miles and post them all at once. I’m not into rules, and wouldn’t suggest you HAVE to, but would love to ask if people could please post their miles promptly.

To what lengths?
Call me crazy, but last week I rode to a business meeting in Denver, JUST so I could pick up 140 solepower miles!
What's a trip
I have been counting to and from work or errand as 1 trip. If I ride to work and get a car ride home it is still 1 trip. If I run an errand on the way to work I count just 1 trip. This just seems the easy and sensible way to count trips.
Happy Friday Sole Power! Raffle Today and...
Good Afternoon All! Don’t forget to log your miles for this week to be eligible for this week’s raffle. Thanks to West Vail Liquor Mart, Yeti’s Grind, Big Bear Bistro, and Pazzos’s we have great gift cards this week!

Trip Question
I agree with the July 28 post.

The Trip Question
I would not start counting half trips, but I would not count a round trip that is 10 miles (5 miles each way) as two trips. It would just be one trip. If a person is intending to only bike/walk one way then that is still one trip.
What makes a trip a trip?
I’d like to hear what others think, it’s a great question. As the rules stand now, I believe whenenver you get to or from your destination, that is 1 trip. We have lots of folks who only ride their bike one way to work, and maybe get a ride home from a friend if it’s raining (or if it’s a little too uphill) so I belive they count that as 1. Thoughts? Should we start logging...
What constitutes a trip?
What is the general opinion of other Sole Power participants of what constitutes a trip? My method has been to use a “round trip” approach. In other words if I bike to work 10 miles I would log one trip of 10 miles as opposed to logging two trips at 5 miles each. I think the round trip method is more honest and fair, any comments or thoughts?
Winos, winos, everywhere
Hmmm … a nice meal and a good bottle of wine? Can’t argue with that, you 476-corkies. Just because we have nine people signed up, doesn’t mean some of them aren’t slackers. There’s only three of us posting any 1.6 kilometers. Be careful though, as you can see, one of us could go undercover and infiltrate your team at any time, yellow sweater and all! #16 in your...
Sole Power Suggestions
Dear Lance (Armstrong, we presume), the Mullen Maniacs and the entire West Vail Liquor Mart team are thrilled we are motivating you and your team to clock miles. Perhaps you are bonking and need to recharge with a good meal and a nice bottle of wine? I believe you are on Team Antlers and noticed you have 5 more members than we do (plus trying to recruit Dozer too). Light the fire! See you on...
Raffle Today! Don't forget to Log!
Hi Everyone, don’t forget that our prize drawing will be held today at 3p.m. for anyone who has logged miles this week. Gift certificates from our fabulous sponsors are available! This week’s featured sponsor is the Big Bear Bistro!
To Count or not to count...
To the participant who biked aalll the way to Aspen to pick up his very green Prius, I’d say clock all 137 miles - fact is you didn’t drive, and it was a commute because you were not riding just for recreation or exercise. By bike it was just farther. Interesting case though - anyone else have thoughts?
Hmmm ... what do you think?
My Prius is ready to be picked up in Glenwood. Can’t bike there with the bikepath closed. If I ride Independence Pass through Aspen and pick up 137 miles, is that fair? I’m riding that far, but only saving 60 car miles. Hmmmm ….
Suggestion Box
I’m not sure we’ll ever catch those Mullen Maniacs, but ain’t givin’ up. We need Randi back from the Tour de France to get us back on track. In the meantime … it’s a great motivator just trying to stay up with those winos. Suggestion … perhaps part way through the season (at some surprise juncture) the entire field of teams could be split into three or...

Yikes
My bike computer has never missed a beat in six years …until yesterday. Halfway to work it just bonked, and check the mileage! Yikes. I’m not superstitious, but I’m riding REALLY carefully until this thing is fixed.
